PROFESSIONALISM, RELIABILTY & RESULTS Nando Pettinato has gained a reputation as one of Sydney's finest professional drummers. Having spent three years studying with renowned US drummer virtuoso, Chad Wackerman (Barbra Streisand, Frank Zappa, James Taylor), Nando has a successful teaching career and an active playing schedule. Nando's has extensive coaching experience and has conducted drum workshops and tutored at the following schools: Annandale Public School Balgowlah Public School Belrose Public School Cammeray Public School Kambora Public School Middle Harbour Public School Neutral Bay Primary School Northbridge Primary School Newtown Public School Ravenswood School for Girls Roseville Public School St Pius X College Truscott Street Primary School Willoughby Girls High School Willoughby Primary School He is currently teaching drums at Arden College, Marist Pagewood & Trinity College. THE MOELLER TECHNIQUE Nando's teaching methods involve the study of the Moeller technique for playing drum strokes. This technique utilises the combination of a wrist stroke and the art of stick rebound to produce a fluid and natural playing style. Nando's students consistently achieve awards and recognition at band competitions (e.g Yamaha Band Festival) held each year in Sydney. His excellent rapport with students has made him an in-demand teacher. Nando is available for private one-on-one lessons at student's homes or on campus at their school. "Bands whose drummers study with Nando have an unfair advantage" - A local school band master. NANDO-ISMS - A Collections of thoughts, advice and quotes - The P word is not practice, practice, paractice but play, play, play. - Be meticulous with every note you play and be thankful for the oppurtunity to play it. - Pay peanuts, get monkeys. Advice for band managers. - The worst thing that can happen to me when filling in for another drummer is the band telling me at the end of the night how well I played and how much feel I have compared to their regular drummer. I can guarantee that I won't get called again once the word gets back to the regular drummer. - Anyone who thinks that Phil Collins is not a serious drummer obviously hasn't heard of Brand X. - Someone who owns recording equipment is not necessarily an engineer. - I don't trust the musical opinion of anyone who can't play a C major scale( 2 octaves!) - I once played for a "famous" singer who did not utter a single word to me. After I discovered that I was filling in for his brother it all made sense. - Self discipline is a must to survive. A sense of humour helps as well. - The most solid backbeat in drumming belongs to Andy Newmark. Listen to Lennon's Double Fantasy or Roxy Music's Avalon before you think you disagree. - There are no limits to learning. If you are good you strive to be better. - A teenage friend of mine told me that Jon Farriss of INXS was his all-time favourite drummer. I couldn't take anything he said seriously after that. - Studying with Chad Wackerman made me realise how many drummers in Sydney are "just pretending". FAVOURITE QUOTES Women and musicians first! Its been a pleasure trying to play with you. The older I get the better I was. Is that the banjo player Porsche parked outside? Please write all song requests on the back of a $50 dollar note. Most producers - "that was perfect, lets do one more." An audience member approached me as I was packing up after a show and kindly commented that he enjoyed my playing, he then asked whether I had learnt to play at the Conservatorium Of Music. I said "Yes, the one in Willoughby." My good friend Daniel Hudecek was present and started to laugh. He knows what I think of most music institutions.
